We are part of the **Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS)**, founded in 1847 by German Lutheran immigrants seeking religious freedom. The LCMS holds firmly to the historic Lutheran Confessions, especially the Augsburg Confession of 1530, and is considered conservative in theology and practice.
Yes. Scripture shapes everything we do. Our worship services are filled with Bible readings, prayers, and hymns rooted in Scripture. Each Sunday includes readings from the Old Testament, the New Testament letters, and the Gospels. Over three years, much of the Bible is read aloud in worship. Preaching and teaching flow directly from these readings.
We are theologically conservative, but not fundamentalist. On social issues, we hold traditional Christian teachings while remaining independent of political parties or movements. Our goal is not to mirror the culture, but to be shaped by Christ.
Locally, we are often called “the bread church” because of our long-running food pantry ministry. We are also known for our beautiful stained glass window, visible from Rainbow Boulevard, and for warm hospitality and strong congregational singing.
Yes. We value multi-generational worship and learning. While we currently have a small number of young families, we are committed to growing this ministry and welcoming children and teens as full members of the church community.
We serve in several key ways:
A food pantry that serves XXXX people each year and provides Thanksgiving meals to over 100 families.
A partnership with International Students Inc. (ISI), welcoming students and scholars from KUMC.
A preschool ministry that has served families for more than 40 years.
Worship is reverent, welcoming, and participatory. The beautiful stained glass window and resonant singing create a sacred space and time. Christ Jesus is the focus. Services last about 60–75 minutes. We sing hymns together, hear Scripture and preaching, and celebrate Holy Communion each Sunday. Dress is come-as-you-are, and visitors are warmly welcomed.
It is special because it is…
a church small enough to be known and cared for…
a church whose worship has power in it, through the full participation of God’s people in their singing (the acoustics certainly help)…
a church whose beauty takes your breath away when you enter its sanctuary…
a church that has chosen to stay planted in the urban core of KCK, doing its best to serve the needy…
a church that equips us to be Christians and American citizens, not beholden to the political or cultural idols of the day.
a church that values the arts, as we are able…
a church where you can receive biblical truth from the pulpit, even though that truth cuts both ways…
a church that unashamedly practices the worship traditions that have sustained the generations…
a church, where you will make a difference for a variety of reasons…
a church that will welcome you when you enter the door….
Try us.
Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.
Jesus is proclaimed each Sunday through Scripture, preaching, and worship.
Jesus sends us into the world to love and serve our neighbors.
And one more thing: we sing well, the sanctuary is beautiful, and you will be welcomed.
